Peter Obi has met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja as part of his consultations with political leaders on Nigeria’s future and the next general election.
Obi visited Jonathan at his residence in the capital alongside leaders from the south-east. He shared details of the meeting on X, where he said the visit was part of ongoing talks ahead of the 2027 election and wider issues affecting the country.
In his post, Obi said the discussion centred on the direction of the country. He said, “Our discussions were frank, thoughtful, and anchored on the urgent need to reposition Nigeria on the path of unity, security, stability, productivity, and inclusive governance.”
He also spoke about the need for leaders to work together at a time of economic and security concerns. He said, “At a time when our nation continues to grapple with economic hardship, rising insecurity, and deepening social divisions, it has become imperative that Leaders across regions come together to reflect, consult, and act in the overall interest of the Nigerian people.”
Obi said leadership should focus on service and results. He said, “The kind of leadership that understands that governance is not about sharing what is left, but about creating what is needed.”
He added that the next election should bring change, saying it is a chance to “reset the trajectory of our country.”
The meeting forms part of wider political talks ahead of 2027, as key figures continue to engage on the country’s direction.
