President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two key ministers and the appointment of their successors.
The development was confirmed in an official memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and communicated through his media aide, Yomi Odunuga.
Under the changes, Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa will step down from their positions, with both directed to hand over to newly appointed replacements.
Taking over the critical finance portfolio is Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance. He will now assume the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as minister-designate to succeed Dangiwa at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending formal confirmation.
The presidency did not disclose specific reasons for the reshuffle, nor did it indicate the next assignments for the outgoing ministers. However, the directive mandates that all handover processes be completed by the close of business on April 23, 2026.
Providing insight into the decision, Akume said the changes are intended to improve coordination within the cabinet and enhance the government’s ability to deliver on its economic agenda under the Renewed Hope framework.
He also noted that the President acted within his constitutional authority, citing provisions of the 1999 Constitution that empower him to appoint and reassign ministers.
The President expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service, while signaling that further adjustments within the cabinet remain possible as the administration seeks to maintain momentum in governance and policy execution.
