Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Wednesday unanimously affirmed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the leader of the party in the state and declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general election.
The resolution was reached during a meeting of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and other key stakeholders of the party held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Akure.
The meeting, the first since the conclusion of the party’s recent primaries, also focused on post-primary reconciliation, strengthening internal cohesion and preserving the unity and progressive ideals of the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Chief Pius Akinyelure, said the gathering underscored the commitment of party leaders to resolving differences arising from the primaries and positioning the party for future electoral success.
He recalled that the council last met on August 9 last year and expressed gratitude to God for preserving the state and granting the leadership another opportunity to deliberate on issues affecting the growth of both Ondo State and the APC.
Akinyelure noted that the party’s greatest strength lies in its unity of purpose, stressing that disagreements associated with political contests are natural in any democratic setting and can be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, sacrifice and selflessness.
He urged party leaders and government officials to close ranks and work collectively to ensure that Ondo State surpasses its performance in the 2023 presidential election, where it recorded the second-highest percentage of votes for President Tinubu nationwide.
The GAC chairman also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration and assured him of the council’s continued support while urging party members to shun bitterness, division and unnecessary rancour.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Akinyelure announced that the leaders had unanimously endorsed Governor Aiyedatiwa as the APC leader in Ondo State.
According to him, the meeting reviewed critical issues affecting the party and expressed satisfaction that the necessary steps had been taken to further strengthen its unity.
Former Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, said the gathering resolved that all party members should recognise Governor Aiyedatiwa as the undisputed leader of the APC in the state.
Describing the governor as the institution representing the APC in Ondo State, Boroffice said the leaders also resolved to intensify mobilisation for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and improve on the state’s impressive performance in the last presidential election.
He added that the party leaders would engage the APC national leadership to reaffirm their solidarity and formally communicate the resolutions reached at the meeting.
Also speaking, the APC South-West Vice Chairman, Hon. Isaac Kekemeke, disclosed that more than 30 party leaders participated in the meeting and unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to President Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Kekemeke said the leaders further resolved that all APC support groups operating in Ondo State should function under the leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa to promote unity and coordination ahead of future elections.
He also urged the national leadership of the party to ensure that all major stakeholders in Ondo State are carried along in decisions affecting the party in the state.
