South Africa defender Ime Okon has called on his teammates to put their opening World Cup defeat behind them and focus on their next challenge.
Bafana Bafana suffered a 2-0 loss to tournament co-hosts Mexico in their first Group K match at the Mexico City Stadium on Thursday night.
Goals from Julian Quiñones and Raul Jimenez handed Mexico all three points in the encounter.
Reflecting on the result, Okon admitted it was a difficult outing but insisted the team must remain positive and shift attention to their upcoming fixture.
“It was a tough game, we had them at times. We just look forward, we’re positive. We know it’s a loss but we’re looking to the next game now,” Okon told SportyTV after the match.
South Africa will seek to bounce back when they take on the Czech Republic at the Atlanta Stadium.
