Concerns over campus safety have intensified in Ogun State after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) condemned the abduction of Gateway ICT Polytechnic students in Saapade.
The student body, in a statement signed by its President, Akinteye Babatunde, called on the Federal and Ogun State governments as well as security agencies to ensure the immediate rescue of the victims and strengthen security around tertiary institutions.
NANS said the attack on a private hostel along Paraga Road, Ipara, was another indication of growing insecurity affecting students, coming shortly after a separate incident at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, where a student was killed during a robbery attack.
The association described the situation as unacceptable, insisting that students should not have to choose between education and personal safety.
It urged security agencies to deploy all available resources for the rescue operation and called for long-term measures, including improved campus security and affordable student accommodation.
