Opposition parties in Ogun State have formed a coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The coalition, made up of the Allied Peoples Movement, New Nigeria People’s Party, Labour Party and Social Democratic Party under the Coalition of Registered Political Parties, says it is seeking to provide voters with an alternative platform for governance.
Chairman of the coalition, Sunday Oginni, announced the alliance during the unveiling of APM’s deputy governorship, senatorial and House of Assembly candidates in Abeokuta.
Oginni said the coalition was created to reshape the state’s political landscape and end what he described as the long-standing dominance of the APC across the three tiers of government.
“Ogun State is yearning for a new dawn. That is why political parties are coming together to give the people the leadership they deserve”, he said.
He urged other opposition parties with similar objectives to join the alliance, insisting that voters deserve more choices beyond the ruling party. Oginni also advised residents to reject vote buying and focus on the competence and integrity of candidates, warning against allowing financial inducements to determine the state’s future.
The NNPP National Secretary maintained that the coalition would bridge what he described as a leadership gap in Ogun State by providing a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
He further cautioned against external influence in the state’s politics, saying the coalition would resist any attempt to dominate Ogun’s political affairs.
