Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has claimed that age misrepresentation is a common practice within the country’s music industry, suggesting that some artists adjust their ages to improve their marketability.
The rapper, whose real name is Tochukwu Ojogwu, made the remarks during a recent livestream conversation with streamer Enzo.
According to him, pressure from record labels and brand partners often pushes artists to present themselves as younger than they actually are, particularly in an industry where youth is seen as a key selling point.
Odumodublvck noted that many investors prefer to back younger talents, which can limit opportunities for older performers seeking deals or endorsements.
“I am 32 and I don’t bother myself about getting things right at this age,” he said, adding that the trend is largely driven by commercial considerations.
He argued that this preference for younger artists influences how musicians position themselves publicly, with some allegedly reducing their official age to fit industry expectations.
The rapper’s comments have sparked discussions about age perception, authenticity, and the pressures artists face in navigating the business side of entertainment.
His remarks add to ongoing conversations about transparency and the role of image management in shaping careers within Nigeria’s evolving music landscape.
