Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Nasarawa State have arrested two suspected railway vandals in a renewed crackdown on economic sabotage.
The State Commandant, Brah Samson-Umoru, disclosed the development through the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Jerry Victor, during a press briefing in Lafia.
He said the suspects, identified as Mohammed Sale (21) and Mohammed Mailafiya (43), were apprehended at the crime scene following credible intelligence on their activities. Both are residents of Agyaragu Village in Lafia Local Government Area.
According to the commandant, the swift response of NSCDC operatives prevented further damage to critical railway infrastructure.
Umoru described railway vandalism as a serious economic crime capable of undermining national development and endangering public safety, stressing that the Corps remains committed to protecting critical national assets.
He noted that the latest arrest comes barely a week after the command paraded five other suspected vandals and recovered more than 33 cut rails and related materials.
The commandant said intensified surveillance and intelligence-driven operations were already yielding results across the state.
“We are determined to make the state completely uninhabitable for criminal elements. They must either change or face the law,” he warned.
He also raised concerns that criminal elements may attempt to exploit the approaching electioneering period to perpetrate unlawful activities, assuring that the Corps is prepared to respond decisively.
Umoru reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and securing infrastructure, while urging residents to support security agencies with timely information.
The suspects, he added, will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
