The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a serious train accident at Agbor in Delta State along the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor, with emergency responders deployed to the scene.
In a media announcement issued on Monday, the corporation said rescue and emergency operations were underway while authorities worked to determine the scale of the incident.
“The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirms a serious train accident at Agbor along the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor,” the statement said.
The NRC added that efforts were focused on rescue operations and gathering information on the circumstances surrounding the accident.
“Rescue and emergency response operations are currently ongoing at the scene, while relevant authorities are working to ascertain the full extent of the incident,” the corporation stated.
The rail operator did not immediately provide details on possible casualties, injuries, or the cause of the accident.
The corporation said additional information would be released as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
The announcement was signed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa.
The Warri-Itakpe rail line is one of Nigeria’s major standard-gauge railway corridors, linking Delta State to Kogi State and serving passengers and freight operators along the route.
