Veteran Nollywood actress Maureen Okpoko has revealed that she has been living with visual impairment for the past four years, making a public appeal for financial assistance to continue her medical treatment.
In an emotional video shared online, the actress said her condition has persisted for years and that she now requires additional medical intervention. She appealed to colleagues, bloggers, friends and members of the public for support.
“I have been visually challenged for four years. Please, I am seeking your financial assistance for further medical intervention. Tunde Ednut, VDM, bloggers, colleagues and friends, please come to my aid.
“Your prayers, contributions and words of encouragement will be highly appreciated,” she said.
Okpoko’s appeal has drawn attention across social media, with many expressing concern over her condition and calling for support from the entertainment industry and the public.
Her plea comes shortly after veteran actor and musician Harry B. Anyanwu also appealed for assistance on her behalf.
In a separate video circulating online, Anyanwu disclosed that he was with the actress in Enugu and urged members of the Nollywood community and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute towards the treatment needed to help restore her sight.
Describing Okpoko as a valued colleague, he appealed to fellow actors, actresses and supporters of the film industry to rally around her during what he described as a difficult period.
The actress has not disclosed the specific nature of her eye condition or the estimated cost of her treatment. However, her appeal has sparked renewed conversations about healthcare challenges and welfare support for veteran entertainers in Nigeria.
As messages of encouragement continue to pour in, many fans and colleagues have expressed hope that the actress will receive the assistance she needs to access further medical care.
