Members of Nigeria’s entertainment industry gathered in large numbers on Wednesday for a service of songs held in honour of late actor Alex Ekubo, as colleagues, friends, and dignitaries paid emotional tributes to the screen star.
The ceremony, held at The Monarch Event Centre, was attended by top Nollywood actors and entertainers, all dressed in white in accordance with the family’s dress code for the occasion.

Among those present were Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Ebele Okaro, Nancy Isime, Ruth Kadiri, Nkechi Blessing, Stan Nze, Blessing Obasi, Ik Ogbonna, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, singer Chike, and socialite Cubana Chief Priest.

The evening featured worship sessions led by gospel ministers Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs, while Pastor Jerry Eze, Nathaniel Bassey, and Kaestrings also ministered during the solemn gathering.

Reports indicate that Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, following a battle with kidney cancer, a loss that has continued to send shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry.
The Ekubo family had earlier released an obituary via the actor’s official Instagram page, requesting prayers and support from the public during their period of mourning.
Wednesday’s service of songs officially marked the beginning of his burial rites.
According to the family’s funeral arrangements, the final rites will continue in Abia State with a wake-keep scheduled for June 17, while burial is set for June 18.
