The council also reinstated a judge of the Imo State Customary Court of Appeal after reviewing fresh evidence presented during the proceedings.
The decisions were reached at the NJC’s 111th meeting held on May 13 and presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. In a statement on Thursday, NJC Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, said the affected judges failed to provide new evidence sufficient to overturn the earlier sanctions.
The judges include B.C. Iheka, K.A. Leaweanya, Okereke Chinyere Ngozi, Innocent Chidi Ibeawuchi, Ofoha Uchenna, Everyman Eleanya, Rosemond Ibe, and T.N. Nzeukwu. The council had earlier, at its 109th meeting in June 2025, ordered the compulsory retirement of 29 judicial officers in Imo State, nine of whom were found to have falsified their dates of birth.
Separately, the NJC suspended Justice Ibrahim D. Shekarau of the Nasarawa State High Court for one year without pay over alleged judicial misconduct.
The action followed a petition accusing him of granting an ex parte order that led to the transfer of N7 million from a complainant’s bank account to a third party.
