Nigerian-born defender Ime Okon has been selected in South Africa’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 22-year-old, who has a Nigerian father and South African mother, currently plays for Hannover 96 and has already earned five appearances for Bafana Bafana.
Okon is set for his first major international tournament after missing out on selection for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Head coach Hugo Broos also handed call-ups to Olwethu Makhanya and Bradley Cross as part of the squad for the tournament.
The squad features a strong domestic presence, with 19 of the 26 players currently playing in South Africa’s local league.
