The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for the suspension of the 4% Free on Board (FOB) levy on imports.
In a communiquĂ© issued and signed by AON President Alhaji Dr. Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina and Vice President Barr. Allen Onyema, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, AON described the suspension as a âbold and thoughtful interventionâ that demonstrates the Presidentâs commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment, safeguarding the aviation sector, and promoting sustainable national growth.
The association warned that the levy, if implemented, would have severely increased operating costs for airlines already facing multiple economic challenges. By halting it, the government has, according to AON, prevented job losses, reduced inflationary pressures, and kept Nigeria competitive in the global market.
The communiquĂ© also praised Mr. Edunâs âexemplary leadership as a listening Minister,â noting his responsiveness to industry concerns and patriotism in carrying out the Presidentâs mandate with fairness.
âAON reaffirms its commitment to working closely with the government to strengthen the aviation industry and contribute to the realization of President Tinubuâs vision for economic growth and national development,â the statement concluded.
