The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed aerial surveillance platforms to support ongoing efforts to rescue pupils and teachers abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The surveillance operation is aimed at improving intelligence gathering, enhancing situational awareness and supporting search-and-rescue efforts following the abduction of victims from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities.
In a statement, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the Air Force had continued to provide aerial surveillance support as security agencies work to secure the release of the abducted victims.
According to him, the development was disclosed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, during a courtesy visit by the representative of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh.
“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has continued to provide aerial surveillance support to ongoing efforts aimed at rescuing teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State,” Ejodame said.
Makinde said the Air Force deployed an aerial surveillance platform shortly after the abduction was reported, providing intelligence support for the rescue operation.
He said information gathered from the surveillance missions has assisted security agencies in monitoring developments and coordinating efforts towards the safe release of the victims.
The governor appealed to residents to remain patient and supportive, assuring them that all available resources were being deployed to secure the victims’ release.
Makinde also commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their response, noting that the service provided the surveillance platform while Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.
He explained that the state procured the platforms after consultations with the Air Force to ensure access to maintenance support, engineering expertise and pilot training.
According to him, the assets will strengthen security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states when they become operational.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Suleh reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted victims.
He also commended the Oyo State Government for its support for NAF projects and infrastructure development.
The Air Force reiterated its commitment to working with other security agencies and stakeholders to protect lives and property and address security challenges across the country.
