Internal disciplinary action has been launched by the Nigeria Police Force against 167 senior officers facing misconduct allegations.
Force spokesperson, Anthony Placid, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the officers involved hold the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above.
He said the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) has commenced sitting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to review pending cases of alleged breaches of professional conduct and related offences.
“The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the sitting of the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) to review pending disciplinary matters involving one hundred and sixty-seven (167) senior police officers over alleged breaches of professional conduct and other related offences”, the statement read.
Placid explained that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal accountability, enforce discipline, and uphold professional standards across the Force.
He said the committee is tasked with reviewing cases involving senior officers and ensuring a fair and transparent process in line with extant laws and regulations, with recommendations to the Police Service Commission.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to discipline, integrity, and professionalism, stressing that no officer found culpable would be shielded from due process.
He added that the disciplinary proceedings form part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening internal control mechanisms, promoting ethical conduct, and improving public confidence in the Police Force.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its resolve to uphold accountability and ensure officers adhere strictly to the core values of the profession.
