As talks of a possible political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum, former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso says the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will decide his role in any arrangement involving Peter Obi.
Kwankwaso, who was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party in 2023 and polled 1,496,687 votes, said the final decision rests entirely with the party leadership.
“That is a decision the party will make’, he said when asked about working with Obi in any capacity.
He explained that discussions are still ongoing within the NDC regarding zoning of its presidential ticket, adding that no final position has been reached. Kwankwaso added that the matter would soon be concluded.
“This debate is still ongoing within the NDC party on whether the presidential ticket should remain in the North or be moved to the South. I am certain that within the next few days, it will be resolved and we will know the appropriate decision”, he stated.
He also confirmed that both he and Peter Obi have joined the NDC, saying their defection was driven by internal crisis and legal disputes within the African Democratic Congress.
