Media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown has revealed that she received an abusive phone call from a woman who criticised her over the questions she asks during interviews.
In a video shared on Instagram, the host of The Morayo Show and former co-host of TVC’s Your View said she was surprised that someone would contact her directly to insult her over her work.
According to Afolabi-Brown, she has long been accustomed to criticism on social media and typically ignores negative comments. However, she said receiving a personal phone call filled with insults was a different experience.
She suggested that the criticism stemmed from some of her recent interviews, including one in which she asked a guest about an experience at a funeral.
Defending her approach, the broadcaster said asking probing or difficult questions is a fundamental part of journalism and television presenting. She noted that her more than two decades in the media have equipped her to conduct interviews professionally.
Afolabi-Brown said she has spent 21 years in the media industry and 12 years hosting a daily television programme, adding that the experience has earned her the credibility to question guests on a wide range of issues.
She also stressed that she treats interviewees with respect, explaining that she often discusses the scope of interviews with guests in advance and, where necessary, agrees on topics they would prefer to avoid.
According to the presenter, the aim of her programme is to promote meaningful conversations, positivity and understanding rather than ridicule or attack those who appear on the show.
Describing the incident as disappointing, Afolabi-Brown maintained that asking questions is at the heart of her profession and should not be a reason for personal abuse.
