Mexican social media influencer César Gastélum was shot dead while livestreaming on TikTok outside a fast-food restaurant in Culiacán, authorities have confirmed.
Gastélum, who was known for creating comedy content on the platform, was broadcasting live alongside two friends on Tuesday when two men reportedly arrived at the scene on a motorcycle.
According to preliminary reports, one of the suspects approached the group and shot the influencer at close range before fleeing with the other rider.
Local media reported that responding officers initially believed the victim was a delivery rider because he and his companions were wearing bright yellow jackets and carrying delivery bags. Authorities later established that the deceased was Gastélum.
Police said no arrests had been made as of the time of filing this report. Investigators are examining spent cartridge casings recovered from the scene and reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible for the attack.
Officials have not disclosed a possible motive, and it remains unclear whether the influencer had received threats before the shooting.
Gastélum’s death adds to a growing list of attacks targeting social media personalities in Mexico.
In May 2025, 23-year-old beauty influencer Valeria Márquez was shot dead while livestreaming on TikTok from a beauty salon in Zapopan. Earlier, in December 2024, influencer Leobardo “El Gordo Peruci” Aispuro was also killed in Culiacán.
Authorities have continued investigations into Gastélum’s killing as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
