Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the clubâs new head coach following the departure of Pep Guardiola.
The club announced on Tuesday that Maresca had signed a long-term deal running until June 2029 and would immediately take charge of first-team preparations ahead of the new season.
Maresca returns to Manchester City after previously serving on Guardiolaâs coaching staff during the clubâs treble-winning campaign. His appointment is being viewed as an attempt by the club to maintain continuity in style and philosophy after Guardiolaâs successful reign at the Etihad Stadium.
The 45-year-old Italian has built a growing reputation in European football for his tactical approach and possession-based style of play, qualities City officials reportedly considered key in selecting Guardiolaâs successor.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had earlier reported that the agreement had been completed.
âEnzo Maresca has already signed a three-year deal as Manchester Cityâs new manager. Agreement until June 2029 and a new chapter to start soon at #MCFC,â Romano wrote on X.
Club officials are also expected to involve Maresca in transfer planning and squad restructuring ahead of the new campaign as City prepare for a new era.
Guardiola leaves Manchester City after one of the most successful managerial spells in modern football. During his time at the club, City won multiple Premier League titles, domestic trophies and the UEFA Champions League.
Maresca now faces the challenge of sustaining Cityâs dominance while establishing his own identity at one of Europeâs biggest clubs.
