A new Nigerian Army division is set to boost security operations in the North-Central region following President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the establishment of the 5 Division Headquarters in Makurdi.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that will strengthen the fight against insecurity.
The governor said the division, with operational responsibility for Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi states, will enhance military coordination, speed up responses to threats and improve the protection of lives and property.
The move is part of the Nigerian Army’s expansion from eight to 12 divisions to strengthen its command structure nationwide.
