Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has emerged as the consensus presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 general election.
Makinde was presented with the party’s certificate of return and flag by APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, during the party’s presidential primary and unveiling ceremony held in Ibadan.
Dantalle said Makinde secured the ticket through an affirmative voice vote, citing his leadership record and achievements in Oyo State over the past seven years. He described the governor as a seasoned politician committed to improving the lives of citizens and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the country.
According to Dantalle, the party’s decision reflects its desire to reposition Nigeria and restore equity, dignity and prosperity.
The development comes amid growing concern over the abduction of students and staff of Community High School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
One of the victims, the school principal, Rachael Alamu, has appealed to Governor Makinde and the Federal Government to secure their release through dialogue.
In an emotional video message, Alamu said a recent security operation had worsened their situation and put lives at greater risk. She also claimed one of the abductees had been singled out by the kidnappers and feared he could be killed.
