Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has hinted that Toni Payne could step in for suspended midfielder Jennifer Echegini when Nigeria face Egypt in their final Group C fixture at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.
Echegini will miss the encounter after receiving two yellow cards, while defender Oluwatosin Demehin is also unavailable following her red card against Zambia.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Madugu highlighted Payne’s readiness to feature in the absence of key players.
“All the players in the team are good enough; they all have different qualities and have their strengths and weaknesses.
“She [Toni Payne] is good to go, she has an opportunity, and hopefully she will also be part of the team, considering the fact that we have players that would not be on the team tomorrow.”
A victory over Egypt would strengthen Nigeria’s chances of securing a place in the WAFCON quarter-finals.
