Actor Lanre Adediwura has revealed that his involvement in the MultiChoice drama series Wura placed him under financial pressure, despite the visibility the role brought him.
Speaking during an interview on TVC Entertainment, the actor explained that while the project boosted his profile, it did not translate into financial stability and ultimately limited his ability to take on other opportunities.
According to him, the extended production schedule restricted his availability for nearly a year, preventing him from participating in other roles that could have advanced his career.
Adediwura said that after exiting the series, he experienced a difficult six-month period in which his income dropped significantly. He further claimed that his earnings from the production were lower than expected, leaving him financially strained.
He noted that although the role elevated his public recognition, several aspects of the arrangement did not meet initial expectations. He added that he later declined an invitation to return to the series.
The actor credited YouTube-based productions with helping him regain financial stability, describing the platform as a turning point after what he called a challenging phase in his career.
“I came out of Wura, and I was spending more than I made. I came out poorer,” he said, adding that the period that followed was one of the most difficult in his professional life.
Adediwura also stated that contractual conditions tied to the production limited his ability to accept other roles during the 11-month filming period. He claimed he was advised against engaging in additional projects while on set.
He further referenced a missed opportunity with House of Gaa, explaining that although he contributed to translation work for the project, he was unable to take on a major acting role he had been considered for.
According to him, the restrictions affected multiple opportunities, as he was unable to participate in other productions during the filming period.
Addressing potential disputes over his comments, the actor maintained that his contributions to the series remain evident in elements still used in the production.
He concluded by noting that he introduced creative nuances during his time on the show, which, according to him, continue to be part of its presentation.
