The Nigeria Police Force has invited Moshood Jimoh for questioning over allegations linked to the investigation of a twin murder case in Lagos, while asking social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to provide evidence supporting his claims.
The controversy follows the investigation into the killings of youth leader Sheriff Salami in 2023 and Ademola Akinloye, son of an Ajiran traditional ruler, in 2024.
Police spokesperson Ani Iniedu said the case had already been investigated and is before a court following advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. The Force described the matter as “sub judice”, warning that it would not allow the case to be decided through media campaigns.
“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved”, the statement said.
VeryDarkMan had challenged the investigation, alleging that Hammed Akanbi, the suspect facing prosecution, was wrongly implicated and that evidence was manipulated.
The police, however, said the investigation followed due process, adding that Jimoh was invited to respond to the allegations while VDM was asked to substantiate his claims.
The Force said the steps are part of efforts to establish the facts, stressing that officers found culpable would be sanctioned, while false allegations would also attract legal action.
