Speedcubing, recognized as one of the most rapidly expanding sports in Nigeria, is set to achieve a historic milestone with its official introduction at the prestigious Kings’ College, Lagos. The upcoming tournament, titled the “King’s College Open 2026 Speedcubing Competition,” is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 18, within the school’s historic premises.
This intensive one-day assembly is designed to accommodate a diverse range of participants, including seasoned experts, intermediate practitioners, and novices. The primary objective of the gathering is to further integrate the sport into the national educational framework, encouraging a wider adoption of the game across various learning institutions throughout the federation.

Kemi Awe, the coordinator for the event, expressed profound optimism regarding the progress of the discipline, viewing this specific debut as a transformative moment for its local development.
“Speedcubing has come a long way in the country but there is still more to achieve to enable the game become a national Sports but gradually we have been able to move the sports forward,” Awe noted.
The coordinator also emphasized the high level of technical proficiency expected at the venue, highlighting that the host students are particularly skilled in the craft.
“The competition is gathering of the best Speedcubers in the country, The boys King’s College are very versatile with the game so we expect a highly competitive competition,” she added.
The championship was originally envisioned as a strategic vehicle to enhance the prestige and visibility of speedcubing within the Nigerian sporting landscape. By offering a formal arena for competitors to display their dexterity, the event seeks to foster professional growth within the sport while motivating a fresh wave of young athletes to take up the challenge.
