Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), in partnership with Roofings Group, has launched a Shs 2 billion project to redevelop Kasubi Family Primary School into a modern learning facility.
The project, funded under corporate social responsibility, will be implemented by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, KCCA deputy executive director Benon Kigenyi described the initiative as a transformative investment in both infrastructure and human potential.
“We are laying a foundation not just for buildings, but for dignity and opportunity for children who have studied in extremely difficult conditions,” Kigenyi said.
He praised the school’s leadership and teachers for remaining committed despite the challenging environment.
“We are grateful to the head teacher and staff who have looked beyond the state of the buildings and focused on nurturing talent. That dedication is what has kept this school going,” he added.
Kigenyi noted that while Kampala is widely viewed as a city of opportunity, many vulnerable communities continue to be left behind.
“Education is the greatest equaliser. When quality is uneven, it creates long-term disadvantage. It becomes difficult for such schools to attract and retain the best teachers,” he said.
“As you move from these conditions into a better environment, you must rise and lead. Let this school become known for performance,” he urged.
According to Florence Mabale, currently, the school serves about 700 learners despite its deteriorating infrastructure, highlighting the urgency of the intervention. Once completed, the new facility will include modern classrooms, a library, a sickbay, a kitchen, staff quarters, a sports complex, and a bakery. The transformation is expected to improve learning conditions and attract more pupils.
“This project will not only expand access to education but also change lives. This school will become a centre of excellence within the community,” she said.
Roofings Group chairman Sikander Lalani expressed the company’s commitment to supporting education in Uganda, noting that the initiative reflects a long-standing passion within the family.
Since 2012, Roofings has supported St Peter’s Church of Uganda Primary School in Namanve, helping grow enrolment from 126 to more than 1,200 pupils through infrastructure development, water supply, and health programmes.
“We believe in investing in education because it shapes the future. Our family has consistently supported initiatives that create strong learning environments,” Lalani said.
He said that the company also exposes learners to industrial operations to broaden their understanding of career opportunities.
“Embrace education with honesty and commitment. Others can support you, but your effort will determine your future. We trust that this new facility will provide a conducive environment for learning and growth for many years in Kasubi and beyond,” he said.
