Tension is rising within the Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress over an alleged plan by a faction to hold a parallel congress, a move some party members say could deepen internal divisions.
A group loyal to Hon. Muhammad Yusuf Babba Dan Agundi has raised the alarm over the development, warning that the alleged plan by an unidentified faction could trigger unrest within the party structure.
The group, operating under the Dan Agundi Support Group, has petitioned the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, calling for urgent intervention to prevent the proposed gathering, which it says poses a risk to public peace and stability.
Findings indicate that under a recent internal arrangement within the Kano ADC, supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar were allotted 40 per cent of party structure, while the Kwankwasiyya Movement led by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and allies of former Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna each received 30 per cent.
However, in a letter to the police command, the group alleged that unknown individuals are planning to convene a separate leadership exercise under the guise of party representation.
The proposed meeting is reportedly scheduled for April 20, 2026, along Murtala Muhammad Way in Kano.
According to the group, it became aware of the plan through a local radio broadcast, raising concerns about the legitimacy of those behind the initiative.
It warned that allowing the gathering to proceed without proper verification could worsen internal disagreements, create confusion among members, and escalate tensions within the party in the state.
