Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has identified internal sabotage as a key issue hindering the progress of Nigeria’s film industry.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, the actor expressed concern over what he described as widespread disruptive behaviour within Nollywood. He argued that such actions continue to slow the industry’s development.
“If there is one thing I would love to change about Nollywood, it would be to purge saboteurs from the industry,” he said, adding that those involved “can’t help themselves” and require intervention.
Iyke’s comments highlight ongoing conversations about structural and interpersonal challenges within the sector, despite its global growth and recognition.
Beyond industry concerns, the actor also shared a personal moment he considers one of his proudest. He recounted becoming emotional after his son praised his work and described him as a “genius.”
According to him, the remark moved him deeply, prompting a private moment of reflection.
Iyke also named fellow actress Kate Henshaw as his preferred collaborator, noting that he enjoys working with her on projects.
His remarks add to broader discussions about both the achievements and internal challenges shaping Nollywood’s future.
