FIFA president Gianni Infantino says preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are on track, expressing confidence that supporters worldwide will enjoy a remarkable tournament experience.
The competition, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and United States, is now less than a month away from kickoff under the newly expanded 104-match format.
In remarks published on FIFA’s official website Thursday, Infantino said enthusiasm surrounding the tournament continues to grow as preparations intensify across the host nations.
“Preparations are going actually extremely well. The excitement is really building. We have been waiting for this and for the kick-off very soon for some years, so it’s time that it starts.”
The FIFA chief stated that all 16 host cities are actively working to ensure smooth operations and a memorable atmosphere for visiting fans.
“All 16 Host Cities are working tirelessly to make sure that, for the fans, everything is in place. There are FIFA Fan Festivals and public viewings all over the three countries. Every mayor, every governor, every leader in these countries is engaged, and engaging to make sure that everyone has an unforgettable experience,” he said.
The tournament will officially begin on June 11 in Mexico City with hosts Mexico facing South Africa in the opening fixture.
Infantino also noted that work on stadium improvements, pitch installations, and logistical arrangements is nearing completion across the three countries.
“We are ready to open the doors to the world, to welcome the world to Canada, Mexico, and the United States,” he said.
