Former Big Brother Naija housemate and entrepreneur Uriel Oputa has responded to people who have criticised her fashion choices, making it clear that she has no plans to change how she dresses to satisfy them.
Oputa addressed the criticism in a message shared on her Instagram page, where she dismissed negative comments about her appearance and urged those concerned about her choices to focus on themselves.
The reality TV star also questioned why some critics were more interested in commenting on her clothes than paying attention to their own health and wellbeing.
Her response comes against the backdrop of public attention around her appearance and weight loss, which has generated commentary on social media.
Oputa explained that her commitment to health is deeply personal, particularly because of her family’s experience with illness.
She said her mother’s battle with high blood pressure and stroke influenced her decision to take her own health seriously.
The entrepreneur has previously spoken about changing her lifestyle because of her family history of high blood pressure, stroke and other health concerns.
For Oputa, maintaining her wellbeing takes precedence over meeting other people’s expectations about her appearance.
She therefore urged people to stop offering unsolicited advice about her lifestyle, stressing that she understands the importance of looking after herself.
The former BBNaija housemate ended her message with a firm declaration that she would continue making her own choices about her appearance.
“I will continue to wear what I want, look how I want, and prioritize taking care of myself,” she said.
Oputa’s comments have since renewed conversations about the scrutiny public figures face over their bodies, clothing and personal lifestyle choices.
