Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ogun East Senatorial District primary election held on Monday.
Abiodun secured 75,550 votes out of the 99,503 total votes cast to emerge victorious in the exercise.
The result was announced by the Chief Returning Officer for Ogun East Senatorial District, Dr. Wale Bello.
According to Bello, former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, polled 398 votes, while Bukola Braimoh secured 29 votes.
Providing a breakdown of the results, Bello said that in Sagamu Local Government Area, Abiodun polled 8,434 votes out of 11,285 registered members, while Braimoh received seven votes and Daniel scored no vote.
In Ijebu North East Local Government Area, Abiodun secured 5,655 votes, Daniel polled 12 votes, while Braimoh got 17 votes.
Abiodun also dominated the poll in Ikenne Local Government Area with 8,226 votes, while both Daniel and Braimoh failed to record any vote.
In Remo North Local Government Area, the governor secured 7,034 votes, while in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, he polled 10,942 votes.
The governor also won overwhelmingly in Ogun Waterside, Odogbolu, Ijebu East, and Ijebu North local government areas.
Declaring Abiodun winner of the primary election, Bello commended party members in Ogun East for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
He described the process as “unparalleled” and praised the electorate for maintaining order throughout the primary.
In his acceptance speech, Abiodun thanked party members and residents of Ogun East Senatorial District for the confidence reposed in him.
“I thank you for the confidence reposed in me. I take this as a vote of confidence in my administration. I promise that I will not disappoint you; I will give you quality representation,” he said.
The governor recalled that he had contested for the same senatorial seat 29 years ago and won but was never sworn in.
He expressed gratitude to God for eventually emerging victorious in the 2019 governorship election after years of political struggles.
Abiodun also commended security agencies, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party faithful, members of his cabinet, and his aides for their support during the primary exercise.
