Science students of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Dukawuya, Kano State, have visited the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation as part of an educational excursion aimed at exposing them to practical aspects of electricity transmission.
The visit, which took place on August 4, provided the students with first-hand experience of power transmission operations, complementing the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom.
During the tour, TCN engineers took the students through the electricity transmission process, explaining the functions of major substation equipment, control room operations, and the safety measures observed in managing the national transmission network.
The students also participated in an interactive session with the engineers, asking questions and gaining deeper insights into the workings of Nigeria’s power transmission system and the role of engineers in ensuring reliable electricity supply.
According to TCN, the excursion was designed to enhance the students’ understanding of the country’s electricity transmission infrastructure while encouraging greater interest in careers in science, engineering, and technology.
The company noted that the initiative also highlights the importance of collaboration between industry and educational institutions in nurturing the next generation of technical professionals.
TCN reaffirmed its commitment to promoting technical knowledge, engineering excellence, and capacity development through educational outreach programmes that provide young people with practical exposure to real-world power transmission operations.
