Residents of Lagos and members of the Revolution Now Movement on Tuesday staged a fresh protest to demand the immediate release of schoolchildren and their teachers abducted in Oyo State two weeks ago.
The protesters marched from Ikeja Under Bridge to the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa, calling on the federal and state governments to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and address the worsening security situation in the country.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the demonstrators expressed concern over the prolonged captivity of the children and their teachers, warning that the continued delay in securing their freedom was heightening anxiety among families and communities.
The protesters urged security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims, stressing that no child should be denied access to education because of insecurity.
They also called for stronger measures to protect schools and vulnerable communities from attacks, saying the abduction highlighted the growing threat posed by criminal elements operating across different parts of the country.
The demonstration added to mounting public pressure on authorities to secure the release of the victims and strengthen efforts to tackle insecurity, particularly attacks targeting schools and educational institutions.
The protesters maintained that protecting children and guaranteeing their safety in schools should remain a top priority, while urging the government to take decisive action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
