The police have arrested four suspects in connection with the killing of radiography specialist Peter Mubiru, an incident that has sparked outrage in Mukono district and renewed calls for improved security.
Mubiru, a well-known medical worker attached to Happy Doctors Hospital in Seeta, was attacked on Monday evening as he returned home. Preliminary reports indicate that assailants riding on a motorcycle ambushed him at around 7:00 p.m. in Bagala Zone, Goma Division, Mukono Municipality.
He was struck on the head with a paver stone, sustaining critical injuries. He was initially rushed to Mulago national referral hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition, but later succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Police investigations have since led to the arrest of four suspects: Abubaker Mususwa, Joshua Olowo, George Muyanja and Umar Basibu. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrests, saying the operation was intelligence-led.
“We have so far arrested four suspects in connection with the murder, and investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the attack, as well as identify any other individuals who may have been involved,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that police are gathering further evidence, including forensic analysis and a postmortem report, to strengthen the case. The suspects remain in custody and are expected to face charges of murder and aggravated assault.
The killing has sent shockwaves through Mukono, particularly among the medical fraternity and residents of Goma Division, who described Mubiru as a dedicated professional.
Community members have raised concern over increasing cases of violent crime in the area, especially attacks involving motorcycles. Local leaders have called for intensified patrols and surveillance, particularly during evening hours, to curb crime and restore public confidence.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist ongoing investigations. Mubiru’s death adds to a growing list of violent incidents in the greater Mukono area, highlighting concerns about security and the need for stronger law enforcement measures.
