The Federal Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the country, vowing not to succumb to persistent criminal activities and violence.
This comes as authorities intensify efforts to restore lasting peace in affected communities including Udege Kasa, Akyewa, Angwan Ogiri, Apura Adagba, and Udeni Ginda in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Historically inhabited by the Afo ethnic group, the community has thrived on agriculture and trade, earning a reputation for resilience and unity.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Community Engagement, Abiodun Essiet, made this known during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the troubled communities.
Essiet, who met with stakeholders called on the warring communities to embrace peace, cautioning residents against being used by selfish politicians or local actors to foment violence, especially as the political season approaches.
She reiterated the Federal government’s support to the affected communities, but warned that any community that fails to embrace peace or honor the resolution reached at the stakeholders meeting would be dealt with no matter how highly connected in the society.
The SSA further urged them to continue living with other ethnic groups and other religious groups peacefully in their communities and avoid anything that might lead to violence in their communities.
She disclosed that president Ahmed Bola-Tininubu has approved an executive order for ranching to be situated in all states and for state governors to provide the ranching facilities in order to avoid continuous issues and tension between farmers and herders.
Earlier, commodore Yahaya Owuna (Rtd), Administrator Udege Development Council, Nasarawa state, expressed deep concern over the unfortunate incident that happened that led to the destruction of lives and prosperities worth millions of naira.
He urged all the warring communities to embrace peace, appealing to the federal government to provide necessary relief materials to the affected communities to enable them to rebuild their destroyed houses.
It would be recalled that the ugly incident which occurred on Friday, April 3, 2026, left no fewer than eleven persons dead and about 52 houses were razed down.
