Revised framework targets improved safety, efficiency and stronger governance across Nigeria’s airports……
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has unveiled a new set of by-laws aimed at strengthening airport management and improving operational standards across the country’s aviation sector.
The 2025 FAAN by-laws represent the first major review of the authority’s regulatory framework in 21 years, replacing the previous guidelines introduced in 2005.
Launching the revised framework, the Chairman of the FAAN Board, Abdullahi Ganduje, described the development as a significant step towards improving airport governance and ensuring the authority’s regulations reflect the realities of modern aviation.
Ganduje praised FAAN’s management for undertaking the review process and updating the legal framework to address current industry needs and operational challenges.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, FAAN’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Olubunmi Kuku, said the previous by-laws had become insufficient due to major changes in the aviation industry over the past two decades.
She explained that the 2025 by-laws were developed to align with evolving aviation standards, FAAN’s changing responsibilities and international best practices.
According to Kuku, the revised framework will provide a clear operational guide for FAAN employees, airport users, stakeholders and industry partners while supporting safer, more secure and commercially sustainable airport operations.
“The new by-laws reinforce our commitment to regulatory compliance, operational excellence and improved service delivery,” she said.
The FAAN chief executive added that the updated regulations would help the authority respond more effectively to emerging challenges while improving coordination across Nigeria’s airport network.
The authority said the new framework is expected to strengthen accountability, enhance efficiency and support the continued growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
