Elon Musk has signalled a full reconciliation with President Donald Trump after revealing he had dinner with the president and First Lady Melania Trump, months after a highly publicised political and personal fallout between the two men.
The Tesla and SpaceX chief disclosed the meeting in a post on X on Tuesday, writing: “Had a lovely dinner last night with @POTUS and @FLOTUS. 2026 is going to be amazing!” The post tagged President Donald Trump and Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States.
The dinner, which took place at Mar-a-Lago in January 2026, comes after a prolonged feud that began in mid 2025, when Musk publicly criticised Trump’s major tax and spending package, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill. Musk had described the legislation as a “disgusting abomination,” triggering a sharp response from Trump.
As the dispute escalated, Trump said he was “very disappointed in Elon,” and warned that Musk’s companies could lose government contracts and subsidies. Musk, in turn, accused Trump of “ingratitude” and made a series of inflammatory posts, including linking Trump to the Jeffrey Epstein files, further deepening the rift.
The tone began to change after Musk publicly walked back his remarks. In a later post on X, Musk admitted that his comments about Trump had “went too far” and expressed regret over the escalation. Responding to the apology, Trump told the New York Post that he thought “it was very nice that he did that.”
That exchange marked a notable shift from the earlier acrimony and appeared to open the door to reconciliation. The latest dinner, now publicly acknowledged by Musk, suggests that both men have moved beyond the dispute.
In another post referencing their renewed relationship, Musk captioned a photo of himself with Trump: “2026 will be spectacular!” The public show of warmth underscores a dramatic turnaround from one of the most high profile political and business feuds of 2025, and signals a reset as the new year begins.
