England midfielder Eberechi Eze has dismissed questions surrounding viral claims that a Ghanaian spiritualist placed a curse on captain Harry Kane during the 2026 World Cup.
The 27-year-old was asked about reports linking Kane’s goalless outing in England’s 0-0 draw with Ghana to alleged supernatural interference.
A self-proclaimed witch doctor, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, had earlier claimed he would cast a spell on Kane ahead of the Group L encounter, insisting it would affect the striker’s performance. He has also previously taken credit for an injury suffered by Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2014 World Cup.
Kane, who has been in strong scoring form at the tournament, endured a quiet match in Foxborough, failing to find the net.
When the issue was raised within the England camp, Eze reacted with laughter and questioned whether the reporter truly believed in such claims before distancing himself from the subject, saying he was “not too interested.”
The speculation intensified due to Kane’s scoring streak, which had seen him equal Gary Lineker’s England World Cup record of 10 goals, leaving him one shy of the all-time mark before the Ghana match.
Following the draw, online discussions grew around the idea of a curse, though Bonsam has since claimed he has “released” Kane from it.
