Media personality Do2dtun has spoken against the practice of treating children as possessions during separation and custody battles, urging parents to prioritise their children’s wellbeing over personal grievances.
In a post shared on X, the broadcaster said the belief that one parent “owns” a child often fuels unnecessary conflict and can have lasting emotional consequences for both parents and children.”The idea of treating children like a possession or property, or as if you own them in a fight, can eventually become an ultimate undoing. They belong to both parties and have equal rights and responsibilities,” he wrote.
Do2dtun acknowledged that disagreements between parents are sometimes unavoidable but said involving children in those disputes is harmful.
According to him, using a child as a bargaining tool or deliberately preventing one parent from being involved crosses an important line.”One party is allowed to be angry if the other uses them as a pawn or refuses to show up,” he stated.
The media personality also reflected on the reality of parenting, noting that regardless of the sacrifices made, children eventually make their own decisions about the relationships they maintain.”The part no one tells you: no matter the sacrifice made, sadly, the kids will still choose,” he wrote.
He concluded by encouraging parents to focus on raising emotionally healthy children rather than seeking loyalty or validation in return.”Do everything cos you want them to be better, not because you want them to love you only or choose you,” he added.
