Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has shared that he would have no issue stepping away from his acting career if his wife becomes the primary breadwinner in their home.
Speaking during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, the actor discussed his views on marriage, financial roles, and family responsibility.
Okanlawon explained that his priority would be ensuring he remains useful within his household, regardless of conventional expectations placed on men.
According to him, if his partner were to achieve significant financial success, he would be willing to focus on domestic responsibilities, including childcare and supporting the home, even if it meant pausing his acting career.
He also reflected on how some men struggle with situations where their wives earn more, noting that it can sometimes lead to insecurity and unnecessary tension in relationships.
In his view, financial comfort would make such an arrangement easier to manage, and he emphasized that contribution to family life should not be defined strictly by gender roles.
The actor also admitted he has limited cooking experience but said he would still take on household duties if required.
“I pray my wife becomes extremely successful in business,” he said, suggesting that if his partner earned at a very high level annually, he would consider stepping back from acting entirely.
Okanlawon added that he would not mind handling school runs and domestic tasks if the financial situation allowed it, stressing that money security changes how such decisions are viewed.
He concluded by saying his guiding principle is to remain valuable to his family in any capacity, regardless of societal expectations placed on men or women.
