Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that he would rather his children pursue careers outside the music industry, saying his own journey to success exposed him to challenges he would not wish on them.
Speaking during an interview with Vibe, the award-winning singer admitted he is already seeing signs of musical talent in his second daughter, Hailey, but remains uncertain about encouraging her to build a career in entertainment.
According to Davido, Hailey has a natural flair for performing and often becomes the centre of attention at gatherings.
“I don’t want any of my children to pursue music. My second daughter is already leaning towards music. She is the life of the party. She behaves just like me. She actually has a good voice,” he said.
The singer explained that his hesitation stems from the realities of navigating the music industry, describing his own experience as demanding and filled with obstacles.
“But I know what I went through. Can you go through what I go through? Knowing what I have been through,” he added.
Despite his reservations, Davido stressed that he would never stand in the way of his children’s ambitions. He credited his parents for eventually supporting his decision to pursue music and said he intends to extend the same freedom to his own children.
According to the singer, if any of his children remain passionate about music and possess genuine talent, he would back their decision.
“Because my parents and my family eventually allowed me to chase my dreams, I would never want to block any of my children from chasing their dreams. And if they are good, why not?” he said.
Davido’s comments offer a rare glimpse into how one of Africa’s biggest music stars views the pressures of the entertainment industry, balancing his desire to protect his children with his belief that they should be free to pursue their own paths.
