Dangote Industries Limited has unveiled plans to significantly expand its cement production capacity after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth more than $800 million with Chinese engineering firm Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd.
The agreement will drive the expansion of the Dangote Cement plant in Itori, Ogun State, increasing the facility’s annual production capacity from six million metric tonnes to 12 million metric tonnes.
The MoU was signed in Lagos by the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and the Chairman of Sinoma International Engineering, Lin Zhong, underscoring a major investment aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s industrial and manufacturing base.
With the planned expansion, the Itori plant is expected to become one of the country’s largest cement production hubs, supporting rising domestic demand while enhancing Nigeria’s position in the African cement market.
Industry stakeholders believe the investment will further consolidate Nigeria’s standing among the continent’s leading cement producers and exporters, while creating opportunities for economic growth through increased industrial capacity and infrastructure development.
The latest partnership also reflects Dangote Industries’ continued investment in expanding local manufacturing, with the project expected to play a key role in meeting future demand and boosting the country’s export potential once completed.
