A former CIA officer has been arrested in the United States after authorities alleged he stored millions of dollars in gold bars and cash at his home, with reports linking him to a senior Pentagon official in the Trump administration.
David Rush, a 17-year CIA veteran who previously held a senior role in the agency’s Directorate of Science and Technology, was arrested after the FBI reportedly recovered more than $40 million in gold bars from his Virginia residence. Officials also seized about $2 million in cash and luxury watches, including Rolex timepieces.
Court documents cited by US media outlets indicate that investigators also found evidence suggesting Rush had previously requested and received large sums of foreign currency and gold bars, which he claimed were intended for work-related expenses. However, authorities said they were unable to account for the assets during their investigation, prompting the raid.
Rush has reportedly claimed that the gold was legitimately obtained for operational purposes tied to his intelligence work.
Media reports, including from the New York Times and NBC News, also noted that Rush previously worked with billionaire Stephen A. Feinberg, who now serves as Deputy Secretary of Defense under President Donald Trump. The two are said to have had contact during Trump’s first term, when they both reportedly served on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, though officials cited in reports suggested they were not close.
