Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle says Nigeria’s home-based players need more time to fully adapt to his plans despite their contribution to the team’s 2-0 Unity Cup semi-final victory over Zimbabwe in London.
Nigeria secured the win at The Valley on Tuesday night thanks to a brace from Femi Azeez, with several Nigeria Premier Football League players included in the squad for the tournament.
Reacting after the match, Chelle praised the domestic stars for their effort but admitted they still require more time to settle into the team setup and project.
“I need some time to work with them [Nigeria home-based players] and be part of the small project,” Chelle said.
“Nigeria won’t stop for that. I hate to do that, but I know the player; it’s difficult for them to be here because maybe some of them, this is their first time in Europe, so the pressure was high for them.
“But as I said earlier, I am happy with what they showed to Nigeria,” he said.
