Commission works with NITDA to assess impact as stakeholders advised to stay vigilant….
The Corporate Affairs Commission has launched an internal review following a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorised access to parts of its digital systems.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the commission disclosed that the breach affected only “limited aspects” of its information infrastructure, though a full assessment is still underway.
According to the agency, immediate action was taken after the intrusion was detected. Response protocols were activated to contain the situation and prevent further exposure.
The CAC added that it is collaborating with the National Information Technology Development Agency, alongside other relevant government bodies and technical partners, to determine the scope and potential impact of the incident.
While investigations continue, the commission said it has already implemented containment measures and introduced additional layers of security to strengthen its systems against future threats.
Users advised to take precautionary steps
As a precaution, the CAC is urging users of its online portal to remain alert.
Stakeholders have been advised to:
- Monitor their records regularly
- Update passwords and login credentials
- Be wary of suspicious emails or unsolicited communications
The commission emphasized that safeguarding user data remains a top priority and reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its database.
Rising concerns over data security
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of data protection practices in Nigeria. Earlier in April, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission opened an investigation into a separate alleged breach involving multiple financial service providers.
The CAC said it will continue to provide updates as its review progresses, signaling transparency as authorities work to strengthen trust in public digital systems.
As cyber threats become more sophisticated, the incident underscores the growing importance of robust security frameworks across government platforms and the need for users to remain proactive in protecting their digital identities.
