South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has attributed his side’s 1-0 victory over South Korea at the FIFA World Cup to a strong tactical display and disciplined execution.
The Bafana Bafana secured their place in the Round of 32 on Thursday after Thapelo Maseko’s second-half strike proved decisive against the Asian side.
The win sets up a clash with co-hosts Canada this weekend as South Africa continue their impressive World Cup campaign.
Reflecting on the result, Broos praised his players for controlling the game and limiting South Korea’s attacking opportunities through an effective tactical approach.
“We played really well and created chances. Tactically, we did really well, and the Korea Republic couldn’t find the spaces that they wanted,” Broos said, according to FIFA.
“We scored the goal, and then it was 20 minutes with a very high heart rate. What we did in the last five years is amazing.
“When you work together for such a long time, there is a connection, and it is more than a relationship between coach and players; we have become friends. We just have to enjoy this.”
