Actress and reality television star Beverly Osu has revealed that she once considered a religious vocation and hoped to become a Reverend Sister before finding her path in the entertainment industry.
Speaking during an appearance on the CreativiTea Podcast, Osu reflected on her early years and the strong Catholic influence that shaped her upbringing.
According to the actress, she attended a Catholic school in Enugu and took the idea of joining religious life seriously at the time.
“I was meant to be a Reverend Sister. I wanted to really be a Reverend Sister. Now, I am doing God’s work in other ways,” she said.
Osu explained that her admiration for priests and nuns stemmed partly from their discipline, appearance, and commitment to order.
She noted that their neat dressing and organised lifestyle appealed to her personality.
“I love how they dress. Because I am meticulous and very neat, I just loved how clean the priests and Reverend Sisters were,” she added.
The actress also spoke about her upbringing in Lagos, recalling her experiences growing up in Surulere, Yaba, and Ojuelegba within a deeply Catholic household.
“I am a Lagos girl. I grew up in a very Catholic-oriented home,” she said, emphasizing the role faith played in her formative years.
Osu also addressed reactions to a past photoshoot in which she dressed as a Reverend Sister, a project that generated mixed opinions online.
She maintained that the shoot was purely artistic and not intended to offend or provoke controversy.
According to her, many people misunderstood the concept behind the images and attached meanings she never intended.
“It wasn’t a big deal. It was just arty,” she said.
Responding to claims that she often courts controversy, Osu insisted that she has never deliberately sought public attention through provocative actions.
She argued that much of the criticism directed at her stems from public perceptions rather than her actual intentions.
“I have never done anything with the mindset to be controversial. People say I am controversial, but I am just being me,” she said.
The actress added that authenticity has always guided her decisions, even when they attract differing opinions from the public.
