Beverly Osu has called for a rethink of how society assigns blame in failed relationships, arguing that those who deceive partners are often not held accountable.
In a post shared via her Instagram story, the actress said public conversations around breakups tend to focus on people who “chose wrong,” while ignoring individuals who deliberately misrepresent themselves to gain trust.
She noted that it is common for people to be shamed for trusting their partners, even when deception may have played a major role in the outcome of the relationship.
According to her, responsibility should not be placed solely on those who believed in their partners, but also on those who intentionally created false impressions.
Osu stressed that trust should not be treated as a weakness, arguing that it is unfair to punish individuals for believing in the authenticity of someone they were involved with.
She called for a shift in perspective, urging that attention be directed toward those who manipulate or fake aspects of their personality to secure relationships.
“We love blaming people for choosing the wrong partner, but we never blame the person who faked their entire personality just to get them,” she wrote.
She added that accountability should focus on deception rather than shaming people for trusting others.
Her comments add to ongoing conversations about trust, emotional manipulation, and responsibility within modern relationships.
