Following his victory in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
Atiku defeated former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and economist, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, in the contest.
In a statement on X, he urged party members to put aside differences and focus on strengthening the ADC. He also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing it of being corrupt and divisive.
The ADC said Atiku won with 1,846,370 votes, while Amaechi polled 504,117 votes and Hayatu-Deen got 177,120 votes.
Atiku praised the primary as transparent and democratic.
He also alleged that opposition parties are facing pressure from government institutions, including the Independent National Electoral Commission and the judiciary.
Atiku warned against interference in the party’s internal affairs.
Meanwhile, Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the outcome, alleging irregularities and voter disenfranchisement.
